Research along with teaching and community service is one of the focus areas of the College. SMC has developed research policy in line with the national research priorities. It has also developed manuals for guiding research activities and has a functioning Institutional Review Board, IRB.

The main research undertaking of the College is masters’ theses dissertation carried out by graduate students in public health, community nutrition, and reproductive health.

Additionally, SMC announces annual research grants amounting up to 100,000 Birr on a competitive basis to researchers in basic, clinical and public health disciplines.

SMC hosts regular annual conferences in addition to state of the art lectures, symposia and educational conferences.
