The medical laboratory Science Department of Sante Medical College is established with the aim of producing high caliber students in terms of knowledge and skills of laboratory medicine. Sante believes and tries to achieve that the graduates will be equipped with latest, up-to-date and modern laboratory sciences in the global health services. The teaching learning processes is conducted by professionals who have long time experiences in the respective field of laboratory education. Proficient and skilled instructors provide both the theory and the practical session using up-to-date sciences and latest automated technology.   

The laboratory program planned to produce competent, internationally recognized medical laboratory scientists. Students, during their four years stay at the college, will learn different laboratory subjects. These mainly include Hematology Parasitology, Microbiology, Clinical Chemistry, immunology, Immunohematology, etc. as basic professional courses in addition to the various general and supportive topics.  

Graduates of Sante Medical Laboratory department will be capable of performing routine and advanced laboratory tests using different methods both classical and up-to-date techniques keeping the quality, accuracy and reliability of test results to the maximum possible levels. Students at the end of their course completion will achieve versatile capacity and ability, in addition to the main professional courses. They will have capabilities in;

• Properly collect preserve, store and transport specimens
• Planning procurement and availing sustainable and un interrupted laboratory supply
• Conduct inventory system
• Perform preventive maintenance for all laboratory equipment and materials and create mechanisms for corrective maintenance based on vendor agreement
• Identify the needs of the community and modify the system of testing services based on the communities demand
• Interpret test results
• Identify and correct factors that compromise test results
• Acquire the knowledge and implement general laboratory safety
• Implement quality assurance programs to improve the test quality
• Participate in laboratory and medical related researches
• Manage the laboratory department
• Participate in policy making, laboratory standard preparation, etc.

To cop up with the continuously advancing medical laboratory science technology, SMC laboratory department established and designed courses that are cable of satisfying the contemporary scientific requirements. Accordingly, the below listed course are outlined.

• Core/professional courses – 33 with 94 C.H
• Supportive courses – 15 with 36 C.H
• General Courses – 6 with 15 C.H

Laboratory Practical sessions                                                                                                         

The two forms/types of lab practices are:

• Consistent with or following the theoretical course
• Provided every afternoon following the theoretical course
• One C.H. lab work means three hours lab work/week for 16 weeks
• Periodical practicum
• Four times throughout the four year
• Study duration- Four year
