Department of Medicine

The Department of Dental Medicine offers a six years program, after which candidates obtain Doctor of Dental Medicine, DDM, degree. The program consists of two years of preclinical education in human anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, pharmacology, microbiology and pathology. Pre clinical lectures as well as laboratory work are offered at the College’s premises. The clinical attachments consist of major courses oral and maxillofacial surgery, Restorative Dentistry, Perodontics, Pediatric Dentistry and Prosthodontics. And in addition, General surgery, Internal medicine, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Dermatology and Ophthalmology courses are required to take before sitting for final qualifying examinations. Clinical attachments are conducted mainly at government hospitals where they can get wide range of cases and enrich their exposure.

The community dentistry attachment involves posting in a rural/semi urban setting during which students make community diagnosis of the selected site and prepare a prioritized health care action plan. Students are expected to prepare a written report on their chosen area of study in the selected areas. During this attachment, students also rotate through schools, hospital OPD, community water fluoridation, and oral health conditions such as cariology and periodontology

Final qualifying examination consisting of written, clinical and viva are administered at the end of the program in the presence of external examiners.
